Admission

The Children’s Station Admission / intake procedure packets will be handled by the Administrator for initial reading. She will initiate individual plan with each client and she will then determine if the referral packet is complete and compatible with the facility’s program. The process of admission takes a minimum of two days from receiving a referral packet. Feedback is given within 48 hours after seeing or visiting the referred client.

The criteria for placement of children in the program are:

  • The applicant may or may not be physically challenged, deaf or blind (or both), will have a diagnosis of a developmental disability and may or may not have special needs. Development disability is defined as a disability which originated before an individual attains age 18, continues, or can be expected to continue indefinitely, and constitutes a substantial handicap for such individual, to include mental retardation, cerebral palsy, autism or other neurological disorder.

  • Applicant may be ambulatory or non-ambulatory. The program is designed to accept children who function in the profound to mild range of functioning.

  • The program is designed to serve developmentally disabled children who have intermittent, reoccurring special needs and supervision / training in self-care and ADL skills.

  • Eligible consumers will benefit from an intensive program that addresses the needs of physically challenged children.

  • Applicants must have a complete referral packet which includes Nursing Assessment, Social History, current Medical Evaluation immunization record (which includes TB clearance, shigella, hepatitis, O & P.)

  • Party responsible for children ( parents, legal guardian or councilor) should be available for an intake interview prior to the children’s admission to the program.

Purpose and Philosophy The children’s Station was created to provide physically, mentally or behaviorally challenged and developmentally disabled children an opportunity for a supportive program that encourages the acquisition, development and further enhancement of special skills, talents and the appreciation for music, arts, dancing, singing, musical-instrument-playing as well as gardening. Transportation School buses from children’s respective district/schools will be utilized in transporting children to TCS after school hours and TCS has a Van Conversion equipped with ramp that can be utilized in emergency cases only. (more..,)

Program Activities The Children’s Station after school day care program initially includes individual program which encourages the acquisition, development and other enhancement of skills and talents as well as provide additional informative knowledge in areas such as music, arts, gardening, and religion. Food Provision Children are expected to arrive at different time schedules (depending on their grade level). Mid-afternoon snacks are prepared by TCS staff and shall be served as soon as the child arrives. They will be given choices on beverage e.g. milk (fat free or regular), (more..,)
